Demat account is an account in which we hold all types of financial securities in virtual form. Demat accounts are maintained by two depository organizations in India
1. National Securities Depository Limited (NSDL)
2. Central Depository Securities Limited (CDSL)
If your account is maintained by CDSL then the demat account number is always 16 digits.
And if it is maintained by NSDL it starts with IN and is followed by 14 digits. An individual can open multiple demat accounts through multiple brokers.
